Catholic Outlet Responds to Politicization of NFL
HONOLULU, HI – Catholic outlet, Serviam, has issued the following response to the recent politicization of the National Football League.
“There is politics, and there is football. With the ever-growing intensity of the current political climate, we must come to an agreement that not every institution should hold have a legitimate stance on a partisan issue. If one athlete, like Tim Tebow, is to be publicly criticized for kneeling in prayer, every athlete should. Football should be free from all religious and political affiliations, and played for the team and the game itself, not personal matters,” said Jason Jones, President and Co-Founder of Serivam.
“NFL players, owners, even President Trump—this is your fault; the American people, your fans, turn to rooting for their teams as a form of unification. Politicizing football takes all of that away from what makes it American."
“Football is as American as hot dogs and Budweiser. It shouldn’t be riddled with American social justice issues.” said Jones.
Serviam is made up of faithful Catholic laity actively sharing the true principles of Catholic Social teaching in the political life of our nation. They aim to make authentic Catholic social teachings accessible in the most creative way possible, by encouraging prayers, fasting, penance, and love for one’s neighbor.
